Vision! The Bigger Picture

As I think about my life after Baruch, there are plenty of uncertainties out there I have yet experienced because I have been attending school most of my life. When I graduate, I plan to apply to take the CPA exam. This can only happen if I finish all my classes in time so this is sort of two goals in one and is also always in the back of my mind. If passed, it will be awesome as I would feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. I heard that this was not an easy test to pass, so to achieve this goal is going to require plenty of heavy duty studying.
Moving on from a goal most accounting majors may have, I also would like to concentrate on a hobby of mine which is to play handball more often and become well enough to win a legit tournament. Ever since Sophomore year started, there is less and less time to play, and I do know that working would take up more of my time but its still a goal of mine. Also becoming better than your friends in the game is just icing on the cake.
Another vision I have is to become a food critic. I honestly have no idea on how to become one, maybe go to culinary school. The road to this job I would commit to taking would to first become an accountant for a big restuarant, or maybe even food network. From then on I would just continue to build up a contact list and a name for myself and hopefully one day management would notice that I have a interest in food and give me a chance to critique. Last time when I went to Vegas, there were many restuarants that I enjoyed and I thought "Man, wouldn't it be great if I could do this for a living, and traveling would also be a plus!"
I have tons of other simple goals like to make my bed more often or to watch less television, but I chose only these goals because they represent a challenge that I would have to try hard to overcome.

I too am in the same boat with the new CPA requirements. I see it as the first step in your process and believe that this is the one to focus on. Howver, I believe you should alter it. Besides the sense of accomplishment, all I feel with trying to obtain your bachelor's by May 09 is that it would put a tremendous stress on you. I believe you have the ability to pass the exam, but just in case, why not go for the extra year and obtain the MS. At least there is no risk in the sense that if you failed your test with the bachelor's, you would only have to go back to get your MS. And major advantages are that of course, you will have a Master's, which will make your more money, you can fail the exam and take it again with no required additional classes, and you will only have to have one year of audit experience instead of tow. I strongly believe this is the better choice, but whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck!

I'm an accounting major too, and I'll be doing the CPA/masters... That's great that you have something else that you have a passion for fine foods, and realize how you want to bring your passion to the next level. Your plan is great! Good luck!

As a finance major, I can say that you vision plan is well diversified! Thus, less volitile and the higher is the possibility of achieving them all! =) You just have to see clearly what you want to get from this life, and work hard for it, simple recipe of success. And we have something in common, - I dont want to be a food critic, but wine critic is very appealing to me =) By the way, here is a link to some helpful information regarding becoming a food critic : http://www.ehow.com/how_8535_be-food-critic.html

hei hei mkt buddy!! well sorry to hear about the new CPA exam and all the heavy duty studying you will have to do, but this is only the beginning of what you envision yourself doing. of course it is required that u successfully pass the exam before you start your journey as an accountant out in the real world. I see what your goals are spelling out.. basically you want to be able to balance your life--at least that is what im getting out of this. You want the job to come sooner or later, and you want to have time for explore and entertain your hobbies and interests. i wont lie to you, as you probably already know, it is hard. a positive vision of the future helps. That time will come, soon I hope, for all of us!! I wish you the best of luck with everything!

A food critic is really nice job. I think there is a way to do that is to open your food critical blog first and share your experience with everyone!
